These are the plugins I recommend the most for WordPress websites. It’s an ongoing update so you may see plugins come and go. However, I’ll try and explain why as the list develops.

  • All-in-One SEO Plugin – Superseded by the WordPress SEO plugin by Joost de Valk
  • WordPress SEO by Yoast – The leading SEO plugin for WordPress from a true expert (great tutorial here).
  • Akismet – protects your blog from comment and trackback spam.
  • Broken Link Checker – checks your blog for broken links and missing images and notifies you via eMail.
  • Exec PHP – executes php code in your posts, pages and text widgets.
  • Google Analyticator – adds the necessary JavaScript code to enable Google’s Analytics.
  • Social Media Widget – adds links to all of your social media and sharing site profiles.
  • W3 Total Cache – dramatically improves the speed of your site, especially when combined with a CDN. (great tutorial here)
  • WP-DBManager – manages your WordPress database.
  • WPtouch Pro – formats your website into a mobile theme mobile devices.
  • Yet Another Related Posts Plugin – automatically adds a list of related posts to your articles and RSS feed.
